In 1953, Deng Xiaoping was transferred to the central government and became one of the main members of the first generation of the party’s leading collective. While busy, he reads a lot of newspapers every day and participates in reviewing important editorials of People’s Daily. In the sixties and seventies, he was overthrown twice and rose twice. Reading newspapers became one of his main sources of information.

After Deng Xiaoping’s third comeback in 1977, he became the core of the second generation of leading collective of the CPC Central Committee. He has a closer relationship with the newspaper. On May 11th, 1977, Guangming Daily published a famous article "Practice is the only criterion for testing truth". This epoch-making article has the clear support of Deng Xiaoping. The article wrote: "The criterion for testing truth can only be social practice." "The unity of theory and practice is one of the most basic principles of Marxism." 　　According to the Financial Times reported on January 13th, an annual survey revealed that more than half of white-collar employees in China had not received the year-end bonus before the coming (expensive) Lunar New Year holiday.

　　A survey of 11,500 employees conducted by Zhaopin, an employment agency in China, found that by the end of 2016, 50.9% of employees had not received the year-end bonus. Another 9.6% employees were told that the year-end bonus would be postponed until after the Spring Festival holiday.

　　Before this slowdown, which began in 2014, employers in China were not so stingy with bonuses. The amount of bonus will be much higher than one month’s salary, so that employees who go home for vacation can have enough cash to buy gifts (or save them as savings) for their elders and other family members.

　　However, the impact of weak growth on year-end awards may have peaked in 2015. At that time, 66% of white-collar workers did not receive the year-end bonus. The proportion in 2016 was actually better than that in 2014, and the proportion that did not receive the year-end award in that year was 61%.

　　However, in this rebound, there has also been a decline in the amount of bonuses: last year’s average year-end bonus was 12,821 yuan, about 2,000 yuan more than in 2015, but still less than the average in 2014 in 800 yuan. More than a quarter of the respondents with shrinking bonuses attributed the reason to the poor performance of the company.

　　The amount of year-end awards varies greatly between different industries and cities. The average year-end bonus of financial institutions is 17,200 yuan, while the year-end bonus of education departments is less than half of this amount, only less than 7,500 yuan.

　　The gap between the 34 cities surveyed is even greater. The average year-end bonus in Beijing is more than 15,800 yuan, which is three times that of Shenyang, which has the lowest year-end bonus.

　　Employees of state-owned enterprises expressed higher satisfaction with the year-end award than private enterprises. This is not surprising, because the average year-end bonus of state-owned enterprises is 17,318 yuan, which is about 6,000 yuan higher than the expected year-end bonus of private enterprises.

　　However, the company’s stinginess in the year-end bonus may not only damage the employees’ Spring Festival holiday, but also turn back and bite their employers: 39% of the respondents said that if the year-end bonus can’t return to normal, they will find another job, which is 2.3 percentage points higher than that in 2015.

The project was completed by Professor Tan Jiahua from the School of Ship, Ocean and Architecture Engineering, and won the national special prize for scientific and technological progress.

There is a huge demand for dredging in China, and dredgers used to rely on imports for a long time. Tan Jiahua led the project team to design more than 60 large-scale cutter suction dredgers, with an annual dredging volume of over 1 billion cubic meters and an annual output value of over 10 billion RMB. These cutter suction dredgers have become the main force in China’s dredging industry. They have created world-renowned China speed and many world records in the Belt and Road port construction, infrastructure construction, waterway dredging and other projects, created remarkable social and economic benefits, and played an irreplaceable role in building a maritime power, safeguarding national sovereignty and promoting national strategy.

2. Experimental study on preparation and quantum properties of topological quantum materials.

The project was completed by Professor Jia Jinfeng from the School of Physics and Astronomy, and won the second prize of National Natural Science.

In this project, an experimental method of realizing two-dimensional topological superconductors by using superconducting neighbor effect is proposed, and a three-dimensional topological insulator/superconductor heterojunction with an atomic level flat interface is prepared for the first time in the world, which proves that the system is a two-dimensional topological superconductor, and the conclusive evidence of the existence of majorana zero-energy mode is observed, which has been repeated and further confirmed by many international research groups. It lays a foundation for exploring topological quantum computing. Tin olefin thin films were prepared for the first time in the world, which opened the door for tin olefin experimental research. This work has aroused great academic repercussions in the world and has become a hot research direction.

3. Fine mapping of key genes of mental illness based on linkage disequilibrium and long haplotype analysis.

This project was completed by Professor Yong Yong from Bio-X Institute of College of Life Science and Technology, and won the second prize of National Natural Science.

Aiming at the difficulties and bottlenecks in the field of molecular genetics of complex traits, this project has innovated the theory and research methods of linkage disequilibrium analysis and long haplotype analysis of genome big data, and made a breakthrough in the molecular genetics research of mental diseases. The results of the project lay a foundation for accurate diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, and provided systematic research methods and experimental means for the study of genetic mechanism of complex diseases. Eight representative papers were published in the first-class journals in the field of molecular genetics, and SCI cited 1804 times, of which the highest citation was 1350 times for a single paper, and two invention patents were granted, which had high scientific innovation and application prospects.

4. Key technologies and systems of cloud computing for abrupt peak service.

This project was completed by Professor Allergy of School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, and won the second prize of national technological invention.

This project belongs to the field of computer software, and mainly studies the problem of building a cloud computing system with strong real-time, high throughput, fast expansion and high robustness. Invented the rapid processing technology of sudden peak user requests, the high reliability and high throughput technology of data based on storage array optimization, the efficient resource integration technology based on container and mixed deployment, and the service quality assurance technology based on memory data analysis. The results of the project have been applied to more than 30 leading enterprises and institutions in the industry, which has replaced the foreign products of cloud computing basic software and effectively promoted the localization of core software.

5. Green and efficient key technological innovation and industrialization of the co-production of etimicin and gentamicin.

The project was completed by Professor Chen Daijie from the College of Pharmacy and won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.

This project belongs to microbial medicine technology in the field of biomedicine. The idea of "collinear co-production of antibiotics" was put forward for the first time, and the co-production process of etimicin and gentamicin was innovated with gentamicin C1a as the link. The precise feeding process with multi-parameter linkage control, high purity C1a and active blending purification process were established. And innovated the synthesis and purification process of etimicin, broke through the key technology of quality analysis and control of etimicin, and the established new method was included in the 2015 edition of Pharmacopoeia. The implementation of the project has greatly improved the yield and quality of products, and reduced the manufacturing cost and the discharge of three wastes.

6. Technical innovation and popularization of functional reconstruction of jaw defect.

The project was completed by Professor Zhang Chenping from the Ninth People’s Hospital affiliated to Medical College and won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.

Aiming at the worldwide problem of functional reconstruction of jaw defect, this project has established a complete technical system of functional reconstruction of jaw through more than 20 years of scientific research and technological innovation, and achieved a series of innovative results. The project team pioneered the "four-stage" mandibular reconstruction strategy, which solved the clinical problem of functional reconstruction of large dislocation jaw defect; The technique of vascularized fibula widening traction implantation was pioneered, which creatively integrated microsurgery, distraction osteogenesis and dental implantation, and achieved a major breakthrough in jaw reconstruction from "morphological repair" to "functional reconstruction". Through the international oral and maxillofacial surgery training base, national-level classes, international and domestic conferences and other technical promotion and professional personnel training, more than 10,000 patients benefited, and China’s leading position in the field of jaw reconstruction was established, making oral and maxillofacial surgery in China reach the international leading level.

The project was completed by Professor Fang Binghua from the Sixth People’s Hospital and won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.

At present, there are two major topics in China’s medical and health undertakings: one is how to meet the people’s growing medical and health needs, realize the move forward of the pass, and raise the public’s awareness of disease prevention and treatment; The other is the contradiction between doctors and patients. Because of the asymmetry of information, both doctors and patients have incomplete understanding and unrealistic requirements for each other, which leads to conflicts. The Story of the Emergency Room explains these two problems in a documentary way. The panorama of the program shows the real hospital and medical process, and even many medical rescue routines that we usually don’t pay attention to, such as how to call an ambulance, what diseases should be seen in the emergency room, etc., and makes a good science popularization from all angles of medical care, seeking medical advice and mutual trust between doctors and patients. In addition, hundreds of millions of viewers on TV and the Internet, and non-didactic story-telling communication methods have created a peak in the arrival rate of popular science.
